I'm not very good at posting regularly, that might be a good new years resolution. haha. But today I have a non Christmas card to show. It was surprisingly difficult not to reach for my Christmas stamps. It seems that once you get into the groove, its hard to get out! I still ended up reaching for my go to 'Critters in the Snow' stamp set though. I 'scraplifted' the idea from CardMaker magazine, not exactly the same but the same layout. 

 I cut the flags from a My Minds Eye paper pad and inked the background with tumbled glass distress ink. The sentiment is from a Hero Arts set. Everything is popped up on dimensionals. I stamped the polar bear onto water colour paper because I very faintly added a little shading with tumbled glass distress ink and my water brush.

So, I have already posted this card in a previous post, but I am reposting it in order to enter the Lawn Fawn Catalogue Challenge! Go check out their blog for amazing inspiration, and crazily addictive stamp line! :)

Stunning Snowflakes!

This card has such a elegant look to it, but it was actually really simple! 

The snowflakes are die cut from ranger's foil sheets and the sentiment is embossed in silver embossing powder.

 To finish it off I added a few gems here and there and rounded the outside corners! 

 I love how you can get such a 'this card took me a long time' look and it actually took me now time at all!

The Winter Wonderland Has Started!

The snow if falling like crazy, the weather has dropped and Christmas lights are starting to appear on the houses! It's definitely starting to feel like Christmas! Yay! So since it feels like I haven't posted in forever, I have quite a few cards to share today, and since I have so many I'm not going to go into detail in all of them, but I'll still have links to everything down below! 

Here, I stamped the background in versamark ink to get a tone on tone look. I am kind of obsessed with gold embossing powder right now! haha. I used it on this card on the tree and to matte the main panel. 

 This card has a such a different look to it, then my usual Christmas cards, I love it! I also used gold embossing powder on the bench! haha.

 I am absolutely in love with these two cards! The Tim holtz Winter Blueprints stamp set is just amazing!  

 This card has such a light an airy feel to it! Since everything is basically white, the penguin really stands out! It's adorable! The igloo is sprayed with perfect pearls mist! 

 This card is almost too cute for words. If you're a dog lover like I am, you will fall in love with it! The cute little puppy is adorable, I just coloured him in with distress inks!

 This card has some shimmer to it! With silver embossing and glitter and the snowflakes (The blue glitter is the new Distress Glitter from Tim Holtz) it just has a nice winter wonderland feel to it!

Merry & Bright!

For this card I made a really simple, easy to mass produce, one layer Christmas card. Like this card literally took me like 3 minutes tops. I stamped the ornaments in a three different colours of distress inks (evergreen bough, peacock feather and fired brick) then drew a black line to create the string. I stamped the 'Merry & Bright' sentiment in red vermilion ink from Ranger, added two little rinestones and rounded the corners and I was done! This is probably the most simple card I have ever made!

Alcohol Resist!

I'm back! I haven't posted anything in what seems like fooooooorever. hahaa. I tried something new today. Didn't quite work out perfectly, but I know what to change next time! So, I attempted an alcohol ink resist technique. It worked, but you need to work in smaller sections, so the ink will come off the embossing cleaner. The other thing, is I think working with blues, and greens would work better because the pinks and yellows left a weird creamy colour on the embossing and it doesn't look very good. Although it didn't turn out really well, I though I would share the basic idea anyway. To finish off the card I created a dimensional banner to go over top. Everything is popped up with foam dots. This is a standard A2 card.

Snowflake Resist Nativity Scene + 5 Minute Card Challenge Attempt

This was actually my attempt at the 5 minute card challenge! I was super close and finished at like 5 minutes and 30 seconds! (The sentiment I added on the inside made me unable to finish it on time! Darn.)

Anyway; The first thing I did was stamp the Snowflake background with Silver Distress Paint. This acts as the resist. I then took Stormy Sky, Broken China and Iced Spruce distress ink and blended them onto the cardstock. I also went around the edges with Iced Spruce to bring it all together. Then I stamped the nativity scene stamp with black archival ink.

 I mounted it onto the A2 sized card and that was it! A very simple and quick card that would be great for mass producing if you need a lot!

Hello World!

For this card I tried out the ombré alcohol ink technique. I didn't quite have all the right colours of alcohol ink for this, but I did my best! haha. So all you have to do, is pick three colours of alcohol ink all in the same colour, but different shades. I picked a Earthtone, Bright and a Light. After I applied it I blended it out using the blending solution! I stamped over the top with silver staz on ink with a star background stamp from Impression Obsession. I die cut a cloud from a memory box die set and stamped 'hello world'. the elephant and the sentiment are both from a Recollections set. I paper pieced the elephant with some scrap pieces of patterned paper. For the little dots, I just used a hold punch. Everything is popped up with foam dots. 

A closer look at the detail on the elephant and background. This card is pretty gender neutral. Although blue is mostly associated with boys, the elephant neutralizes the gender is my opinon!

Snowflake Flurry.

I started off with a piece paper with a snowflake resist on it. I swiped it through Iced Spruce Distress Ink and then went around it with Iced Spruce as well. I took a tree stamp from a My Mind's Eye set and heat embossed it with silver embossing powder and cut them out. 

 I cut out two snowbanks from white cardstock. I adhered one flat and the other one with foam squares. To finish it off I added Stardust stickles to the tops of them!

A very simple card, but it's quite striking and elegant. I love the finished product!

Christmas Blessings.

This card was very simple! It was inspired by Kelly Marie's card. (Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCa79Fmcdr0)

I took a Christmas tree stamp from Hero Arts and stamped it repeatedly in Fired Brick and Pine Needles Distress Ink.  I cut out a snow bank from white card stock and silver heat embossed the sentiment! I inked around the edges with a Martha Stewart silver ink pad. To finish it off, I matted it onto a piece of patterned paper! 

A peek at the inside. This team I did 'second generation' stamping. Where you ink up your stamp, stamp it off once then use it. Just so I got a lighter impression. Then added a sentiment from another Hero Arts set!

First Christmas Card of the Season!

The first Christmas card of the season! I can honestly say I was happy I could finally break out my Christmas supplies! I stole the general idea from a magazine. haha. A very simple card though. I took a strips of patterned paper and glued them down on a scrap piece of white cardstock. I wrapped a piece of bakers twine around the two pieces. I rounded the top corners and and popped them up with pop dots.

 I embossed the snowflake stamp with gold embossing powder on red cardstock, cut it out and mounted it on a scalloped circle.

Chevron Tag.

I started off by taking a #8 manilla tag. I took a chevron stencil from Heidi Swap and used Brushed Pewter Distress Paint. I then took Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry and Peacock Feathers distress ink and blended it over top. The distress paint will resist the distress inks. I spritzed it with water so the distress inks will run together. The beauty of distress paint is once it is dry it no longer reacts with water, so the stencilling didn't run. To finish it off I stamped the quote from a Tim Holtz set and added a few embellishments.

Mixed Media Tag.

This is an 8 1/2 by 11 inch Mixed Media Tag. 

The background is paper from Recollections. I toned it down with gesso. Gesso is like the most important medium to have in Mixed Media. It's so versatile, I use it on every project! I then added a few pages of book text to the background to draw attention to the focal part of the tag.

 The bird and Cage is a Tim Holtz die, and I cut the pieces out of grungeboard. I love grungeboard, it's so versatile and adds a lot more depth and dimension than just paper! I cut them again out of paper and added it on top.  Then I inked around everything with frayed burlap distress ink then I went around just the edges with black soot.

 The 'Live in the Moment' is a Tim Holtz word band. I went over it with broken China distress paint the wiped off the excess, just to get paint in the words.  Behind the bird cage I have a pieces of burlap that I sprayed with white linen dylusions to tone it down. Then I have a few pieces of lace (one from Heidi Swap, the blue on is just a scrap) layered behind it. I made the blue flower out of some scrap lace. 

 The cream flowers are from Heidi Swap. You can mist these flowers, but I chose just to keep them cream for this one! I added a few leaves and buttons just to cluster the embellishments. 

 I think with Mixed Media it's all about the detail. There are so many little steps that go into everything, most of them you don't even notice, but without it, it would just be plain. the little bit of stamping I did is very faint but it just adds that little extra something. I used a Hero Arts definition stamp in a light blue, almost invisible but you can kinda see it in the photo below. 

 I used a Crafters Workshop Stencil on the silver script using Brushed Pewter distress paint. I also used a dollar stencil and some acrylic paint for some more detail. The 'forever' is a metal piece that I got from Michaels. That little paper clip was the finishing touch. It was the perfect accent!

When you're doing Mixed Media, don't forget to pay attention to the little things because the detail is what finishes it off!

National Card Making Day!

National Cardmaking Day! 

In celebration, I thought it was only appropriate to make a 'Celebration Card' . . Well two! 

For the First one, I took two separate solid dot stamps and stamped the repeatedly in various colours of distress inks. I then embossed my greeting with silver embossing powder. I added these little mirror like embellishments that I got from Michaels. I stamped the envelope background stamp from hero arts to finish it off!

For the second card, I took a chevron stencil and sprayed it with perfect pearls mist. Since I hadn't cleaned my stencil from the previous use it still had some pink mist on it, so it went through. Complete accident, but I love the outcome! To finish I silver heat embossed the sentiment and added three little gems.
